“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” Psalm 37:4-6
April 25th will be our 6th Wedding Anniversary. In those almost 6 years, we have had two children and in a joint effort, accumulated enough belongings to fill our home and several totes that we have had to move to outbuildings, as there were no extra nooks or even crannies for us to use. As we realized that we had outgrown the tiny home in which we started our lives together we began praying for our perfect home. We spent countless hours scouring real estate websites for exactly what we wanted, we looked at land and went to several different home builders, thinking that maybe we should just build. Then, we decided to put our search on hold. It had been around three years and we were no closer to finding a house than when we first began. God is ALWAYS working. Even when your prayers stop on a certain subject or you feel like God is telling you to stay put. He is in the midst of your life and putting pieces together that you forgot that you even put down. Always at work.
One day after church, my husband surprised me by pulling into a driveway of a home right down the road from where we lived and it had a FOR SALE sign in the front yard. We had a walk through and the home had everything we had been wanting for our family. Fireplace-check. Large kitchen for my many baking adventures-check. Finished basement-check. Adequate storage for my craft supplies-check. Hardwood floors-check. Large yard for the kids to play-check. We knew. This was our house. This is what we had prayed for. Within no time at all, the FOR SALE sign was taken down and we began to move in. Amazingly enough, as we began moving in our furniture, everything fit. The beds in the bedrooms were perfect. The dishes filled the cabinets perfectly. Even our teal and brown striped shower curtain that I love and that we have had since we were newlyweds matched the funky 1960s original teal tiled bathroom in the main hallway. Thank you, God for hearing our prayers and for teaching us patience as we waited for the home that you had set aside for us. Built in 1968 and meant for our family in 2015. Awesome.
Our new home place is such a blessing to me. Before we found this house, there were so many specific things that we had prayed for in a new home. Obviously, my prayers were a little different from my husbands, as he wanted outbuildings and a basement for his reloading equipment (both of which he got). I, on the other hand, am an avid cook, dessert making, jam and jelly making, canner, and baker, one of the most important to me was that the property have fruit trees. As we bought the home in the Winter, we had no idea if the home had any fruit bearing trees on the property. That would truly be a bonus to me, as our home met all of the “requirements” that we had set.
This past Saturday, my husband,Clint and I spent the day outdoors walking through our yard with the kids. As we were exploring our new property we found a cherry tree. Beautiful old cherry tree with gnarled bark and billions of delicate white blossoms that snowed down white petals all over the bright green grass. I immediately felt so blessed that God had provided us with fruit. Just a simple request in my heart for fruit. But, over the years, I have discovered and rediscovered that God always surpasses our expectations. Before we finished our jaunt around our property, we found an additional two giant cherry trees, two old apple trees, several blackberries, three walnut trees and a dilapidated old grape arbor sagging under two ancient pecan trees.
